Damage to one exact part of the brain can wipe out one exact function — faces, new memories, speech — while everything else keeps working normally. That precision is some of the strongest evidence for the ordinary view: the brain makes consciousness. A different picture, going back over a century, compares the brain to a radio: consciousness is a broadcast it tunes into, not one it creates. But a damaged radio loses signal generally — it doesn't lose one exact channel with surgical precision the way a damaged brain does. That's a real problem for the simple version of this idea. A modified version, the brain as filter rather than generator, survives the objection — but makes no prediction that tells it apart from ordinary materialism. No experiment yet decides which story is right.
