One reading of Einstein's relativity — called the block universe — says the past, present, and future all exist equally; time is a dimension, much like space is. What we call "now" is just wherever we happen to be standing in that block. Physics has no equation for the felt sense that time is flowing, that "now" is moving forward. It describes the whole block, but not why any of it feels like something happening.
